Susie O’Neill. The iconic Madame Butterfly. One of the original golden girls, in a golden era of swimming. She was a role model for me and many in my generation.

She is one of the most down to earth people you could ever have the pleasure to meet. An undefeated world beater for so many years and kind as they come.

And yet, perfectionism, self doubt and not knowing how to apply her skills learnt through so many years of hard work, impacted her transition into life after sport and in her role as a mother.
